Graham Dickson BMus (Hons)

Born and raised in Edinburgh, Graham started the flute by chance through group lessons at Firrhill Highschool. At first, he thought all flutes were made of bamboo and was expecting to learn a bamboo flute but he then very quickly fell in love with the shiny silver one! Graham studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and then went on to study privately with the London Symphony Orchestra’s flute section. He has performed with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Scottish Ballet and Opera orchestras. Some career highlights have been: recording with the bass flute used on the Harry Potter soundtrack, giving a recital for the royal family at Holyrood Palace, and, performing as a soloist during the 2016 BBC Proms to rave review.

Having had an exciting performing career, Graham is now focused on being the best teacher and role model he can be. He has taught flute for: The City of Edinburgh Council, Youth Music Initiative, Fettes College, Dunbar Music School, Morrison’s Academy and, The National Youth Orchestras of Scotland. He actively seeks continuing professional development and has so far undergone training in: child-protection, fire safety, de-escalation, terrorist response, alexander technique, Kodaly, Suzuki, Dalcroze methods, and, Figurenotes notation.

Outside of music, Graham volunteers with LGBT charities, and is also training to become a counsellor/therapist. He is employed, and is a member of, the Authentic Artist Collective where he leads the equality, diversity & inclusion committee representing over 300 artists. From a sporty family, Graham competes in local badminton tournaments, and enjoys forest walks and taking the odd Pilates classes.
