Jason Irvine
Jason is an experienced drums and percussion teacher from Edinburgh, with over 20 years of teaching and performing experience. He studied at the University of Highlands and Islands, where he developed a strong foundation in both performance and musical education.
Over the course of his career, Jason has performed at a number of well-known Scottish festivals, including the Kelburn Garden Party and HebCelt. He has also had original music featured on BBC Introducing, showcasing his work as a performing artist. His performance experience spans a wide range of styles and settings, including collaborations with world-renowned Indian percussionist and composer Trilok Gurtu as part of the Perth College Samba Band.
As an educator, Jason has taught for many respected music schools across Scotland, working with students of all ages and abilities. With two decades of teaching experience, he is passionate about helping students develop confidence, technique and a genuine enjoyment of music.
Jason has a particular love for jazz and brings this musicality into his teaching, encouraging creativity, groove, and strong rhythmic understanding. His lessons are tailored to each individual, supporting students whether they are complete beginners or looking to advance their skills.
Outside of teaching and performing, Jason continues to explore new musical influences and collaborations, staying active within Scotland’s vibrant music scene.
Some interesting facts about Jason:
- His school was chosen to attend the red carpet event for the MTV Video Music Awards when it was in Edinburgh. He met all the A-Listers of the time, including Beyoncé and still has their autographs.
- He’s hiked across an active volcano (Stromboli) whilst it was erupting.

- He is a long suffering Hibernian F.C. fan
